Thanks to all of you for heading down to the Monarch in Delano for some Pork Chile Verde the past couple of weeks! As a fundraiser for our friend Paxton and his Blessing Box charity, it allowed us to donate several hundred dollars to supply non-perishable food and hygiene items for those in need. The Chile Verde was gone by 11:30am the first day we served it! Another, larger pot was made last week and lasted a bit longer. Donations are still being collected in the way of non-perishable food and hygiene items, just drop off at one of our stores. If you'd rather make a monetary donation, you can do that here.
Several people have asked about the Chile Verde recipe that we used in our collaboration with the Monarch. It generally follows this Pork Green Chile recipe on our handout. The only addition is that canned and pureed tomatillos were included, with sour cream and cilantro added on the top to finish it off.
As the weather cools and soup hits the spot, our plant focus has changed at the stores from trees and shrubs to Florida foliage. Our shrub selection at this point is a new delivery of evergreens suitable for containers on the porch or patio for the holiday season.
It’s interesting to see the vast new types of indoor foliage plants. We’ve passed the days of a rubber tree plant, a swedish ivy and a philodendron, to new var ieties of these plants, and also new options from around the world. From tiny plants suitable for dish gardens and terrariums to large specimen plants like the beautiful fiddle leaf fig. Indoor blooming plants such as cyclamen, African violets, orchids and kalanchoe will brighten your indoors during the winter months into next spring. These repeat bloomers, along with plants with colorful foliage like croton, dieffenbachia and Chinese evergreen are sure to brighten your holidays. Our succulent selection keeps growing, too!
We’ve been brainstorming on what we are going to do with Lucy, our new trolley. You’ve probably seen it parked at the west store. A few of the things we’ve considered are bringing our holiday workshops to you. Or how about a plant party for you and your friends? Until we figure it out, we are going to decorate it for the season; come check it out.
Speaking of holiday workshops, we kicked them off this week with our Custom Creations workshop, and have a great line-up on the calendar from now until the end of the year. We've added more workshops so we can offer plenty of open space. Check out the details on our website. You can either signup online or in-store, whichever is easiest for you!
Stop by the stores; our Christmas Open House is still going on through this Sunday.
