Hello, again!

It's madness time again!! Moonlight Madness that is, this Saturday, July 17! I love looking back to see how the event has changed from the early events. Back in the beginning, we’d open the gates at 5:00 PM, the hottest part of the day, and stick around until midnight with discounts all through the store, greenhouses and nursery departments. Now we open noon to midnight to squeeze in even more specials.

Some things don't change though. We still have 50% off annuals, perennials, houseplants and shrubbery. Cacti and succulents, too. The hourly specials through the day are always a hit. It's a great time to stock up on potting mix and mulch. All Outdoor glazed pottery is 50% off, and remember you can save an additional 10% after 10:00 PM. Test your luck if you've got your eye on something and wait until late to snag it. Will it still be there?

We’ve been busy this summer growing in our new production greenhouse. We were hopeful it would have been completed in March, but with the cold weather in February, we lost a couple of weeks in the construction of the greenhouse. One of the crops that was delayed was our Lavender crop. We bring in starts from large growers and grow them on until they are ready to sell. Lavender, like all other herbs, is so much better when grown in your garden.

Here is a little bit about what we have ready at this time:

Lavender 'Phenomenal’ developed by Peace Tree Farm in 2012, is my favorite. Elegant, sweetly fragrant mounds of silver foliage carry purple-blue flower spikes with outstanding ornamental and edible qualities. This cold-hardy lavender does not die back in the winter like other var ieties and is notable for its disease resistance and heat and humidity tolerance. A must-have evergreen var iety for sunny gardens!

Lavender ‘Sensational’ was created by the same great breeders who brought us Phenomenal. In fact, we love it as a companion plant. The green and silvery foliage provides a nice contrast. Sensational is a bit shorter than Phenomenal, so growing short in front of tall gives you cohesive lavender beauty, and enough color, height and form difference to make the display dynamic. Plus, they come with the same water and sunlight preferences.

Lavender 'Annet', a new English lavender, is perfect for bouquets with strong sturdy stems and lovely fragrant flowers all summer long. This 16" tall lavender is deer and rabbit resistant as well as an excellent butterfly and bee attractor. Heat and drought tolerant once established.

Lavender ‘SuperBlue’ has fragrant, rich lavender-blue flowers that bloom in early and mid-summer. At 12-20" tall, SuperBlue is perfect for borders or containers. Its neat, compact foliage has good rain and weather tolerance. The large, full blooms are excellent for cutting and drying. Whatever your preference is, add a lavender or two to your garden in a warm and dry spot; you’ll enjoy it for years to come.

See you Saturday for Moonlight Madness!
