Moonlight Madness at Johnson’s has always been a blast at the garden centers. As with all of our promotions, they tend to evolve over time. In the early years, hours of the event were 6:00 pm to midnight, and it was HOT!! So hot, in fact, that I saw two trees fighting over a dog! It was so hot, my thermometer went up to "Are you kidding me?!" So hot the moon pies we served on the anniversary of the lunar landing melted before they got out of the box! We did serve moon pies that year anyway - imagine chocolate covered moon pies in the heat of summer!
We've also served ice cream treats, and had WWII searchlights in the sky. Moonlight Madness is always a fun event. A few things have changed since the early days. The sale hours now are 12 noon until 12 midnight, this Saturday, July 18th. Our killer hourly specials are now a couple of hours long. Here are a few of them...Grade A All Bark Cedar Mulch from 3:00 - 5:00 PM is only $6.99 for a 3 cu. ft. bag, normally $9.99 a bag. From 8:00 - 10:00 PM ferti-lome Ultimate Potting Mix is 30% off for 3 cu. ft. bags, normally $26.99.
Another change this year brings is spreading things out more to allow for social distancing while shopping. We'll also have outside checkouts. The specials will span the entire property all day long on pottery, plants, trees, grass seed and more. If you come out after 10:00 PM during Moonlight Madness you'll save an additional 10% on not only sale items, but ALL regular priced items as well. People watching is always fun at Moonlight Madness; it’s not uncommon to see people in their PJ’s shopping up until midnight!
Coming up next is Hatch Green Chile season. If you haven't heard, our 8th Annual Iron ChileHead Beerfest is canceled. While we are brokenhearted, we feel this is in the best interest of our valued customers and staff. Stay tuned on how you can enjoy chile beers and food around town as we take an Iron ChileHead Road Trip in August. Also, save the date for August 21, 2021. We're going to have one heck of an Iron ChileHead party!
But don't worry - CHILES ARE COMING! We are currently working with our Hatch Green Chile suppliers in southern New Mexico to have our first shipment of Hatch Green Chile in the stores the 2nd week of August. Early reports are indicating another good year for Green Chile. Pre-Order your Green Chile now!
