This weekend, I knew it was time to get my perimeter pest control application applied. Walking into the front door, I noticed a small, fuzzy black spider with a black spot on its back, scurrying into the house. After a bit of scientific research on the internet, I deduced that my new house guest was a member of the jumping spider family (officially called the Salticidae family). Jumping spiders are not considered a large danger to humans, especially given that these spiders are more likely to run away from people than attack them. However, they do possess fangs and produce venom, but the venom is not a medical threat to us. So while they can bite, the jumping spider is not poisonous.
Realizing that it was time to prevent more than spiders, I came up with my plan to keep unwanted house guests away. My first line of defense is always Hi-Yield Turf Ranger to control insects like fleas, ticks, crickets, spiders, ants, chiggers, and others from entering the home. It’s easy to apply with a fertilizer spreader on the lawn around my house, at the same time as a Winterizer application, and it will keep many insect pests from entering my house.
A new control that I’m going to use is from Revenge, called Invisible Roach Bait. Don’t let the name fool you; this product controls so many more insects than roaches. The insects carry the bait back to where other insects are hiding. It is effective in killing ants, Asian ladybeetles, booklice, carpet beetles, crickets, earwigs, pillbugs, silverfish, stinkbugs and more. The innovative puffer applicator makes it easy to apply, and it is effective on roaches for up to 2 years.
Another great insect control is from Martin’s. It’s called Martin's Viper & I.G. Regulator Combo Pack. It contains two great products, Viper Insecticide Concentrate and I.G. Regulator Insect Growth Regulator in one convenient pack. I.G. Regulator is an insect growth regulator that inhibits reinfestation of fleas for up to seven months, and keeps larvae from advancing to adults in fleas, roaches, flies, mosquitoes, gnats, crickets, litter beetles and ants. Use it safely on carpets, rugs, furniture, draperies, in poultry houses, animal quarters, kennels, dog houses, and warehouses. Whichever control you prefer, apply it now before the temperatures drop and more insects are looking to come indoors!
Pansy Mania is still going on. Grab your Mania Money and spend it through this weekend, for up to 50% of your purchase price on insect controls, fall decor, or most anything else in the store.
