By now, most of us have our crabgrass preventer applied and the product is controlling crabgrass seedlings as they germinate. For All Seasons Lawn Food Plus Crabgrass and Weed Preventer from ferti-lome will work most of the season. I do recommend also applying Hi-Yield Weed & Grass Stopper in the hot spots of your turf, and along curb lines, sidewalks and drives for season long control as the heat shortens the life of For All Seasons a bit. Weed & Grass Stopper contains no fertilizer and is great for landscape areas as well.
I hope you’re saving the date of August 22nd for this year's Iron ChileHead Beerfest! If you’ve attended in the past, you know this is an event you don't want to miss. The Bolzen Beer Band with their party punk polka, regional craft breweries and local food trucks competing for the coveted Iron Chile Head trophy, and an official stein hoisting competition all make this the most fun event we host every summer.
Hello, again! In a few short weeks the tomato seedlings we transplanted in the greenhouse this week will be ready to plant in your garden. The first crop of tomato plants were transplanted earlier this year, and we have been selling them for a couple of weeks. After selling out in a few days, I was looking at our seed inventory and decided to start a crop for early May when we typically have dozens of var ieties to select from.
Piet and I were sure to practice social distancing last week when he made his stop at the garden center on his sales call. Piet is more than a supplier of Dutch flowering bulbs to us; he’s one of our best family friends. I’ve ridden bikes with Piet in the Netherlands, spectated the Tour de France with him, and we also visited Scheveningen beach in Holland together. That was a site to remember!
