DIY Lawn Care

From growing your own veggies to brewing your own beer, today is the age of Do-It-Yourself, and that includes caring for your lawn. Johnson's Garden Centers has put together a 5-Step Lawn Care Program, that makes it easy for you to do it yourself.

Ferti-Lome 5 Step Lawn Care Program

Our basic program includes five applications—four fertilizations (one early spring, one late spring and two fall feedings) and a soil conditioner.

Step 1  ferti•lome For All Season Lawn Food Plus Crabgrass & Weed Preventer w/Prodiamine (16-0-8) Apply in January through mid April. Prevents grassy-type weeds (crabgrass and more) all season long (until fall) while it feeds your lawn.

Step 2  ferti•lome Pro-Green Lawn Tonic (16-0-0) Apply any time during the growing season. Promotes a healthy deep green lawn and helps acidify the soil. Contains no weed control.

Step 3  Natural Guard Top Dressing (Natural Soil Conditioner) Apply in spring or fall. Not a fertilizer, but this product REALLY greens up your lawn! Unlocks nutrients to improve soil structure and fertility. Enhances root development. Improves turf resistance to stress.

Step 4  ferti•lome Winterizer (25-0-6) Apply in September through October to encourage maximum growth during the peak growing season.

When weed control is needed, for best results, substitute one winterizer application with fert•lome Weed-Out plus Lawn Fertilizer (25-0-4) in the fall, by mid October. Contains three weed killers to control broadleaf weeds such as henbit, dandelion, clover, chickweed, etc., while feeding your lawn. For best results water in after 24 hours.

Step 5  ferti•lome Winterizer (25-0-6) Apply in October through December, about 30 days after your first Winterizer. Increases winter hardiness, keeps grass greener longer and promotes earlier spring green up.

Optional: Hi-Yield Grub Free Zone II Apply as a preventative in late spring to early summer before grubs damage your lawn. Water in well for best results.
