Once winter comes, spring is not far behind.
Hello again!
What a difference 7 days make. A week ago, we were preparing for the cold front of a lifetime, and this week we’re enjoying warmer weather than normal. With low temperatures in the mid 30’s and highs in the 40’s and 50’s in the 10-day forecast, we can enjoy some time outdoors. I still have a few bulbs to plant, and need to put down the last application of ferti-lome Winterizer before it rains on Monday. It will be perfect timing for sure!
We kept the greenhouses warm during the cold snap using a time tested hack to keep the cold out. By using moving blankets to cover the doors and fans in the greenhouses, we made sure the plants all survived. We’ll keep the blankets handy just in case, but during a normal winter we only go to the cold weather plan once. Hopefully that’s it for the season. With the ‘greenhouse effect’ created in our greenhouses, many days when the temperatures are in the 50's we are having to ventilate the structures!

This week in the news, I noticed a story on our food supply for 2023. According to foxnews.com, experts are expecting higher prices going forward because of drought, inflation and interest rates. I want to encourage growing what you are able to grow yourself. There is no better value in food than what you grow from seeds or transplants. For less than a cup of coffee you can grow fresh produce in a container or a few square feet in your garden or landscape.
